Abstract

This study attempted to describe the training and development approaches among foreign multinational banks in Malaysia. Objectives of the study were to determine if the multinational banks adopted the ethnocentric, polycentric or geocentric approaches in their training and development practices. Seven foreign multinational banks Erom four countries were selected for this study. Semi-structured interview incorporating the training and development practices were used to collect data. The findings revealed that the American and the Japanese banks adopted ethnocentric approach in training and development practices compared to the Singaporean and European multinational banks. The Singaporean bank used polycentric approach, while the European banks had a combination of ethnocentric and geocentric approaches.
